Q1. Can our team practise on the grass fields?

No. Soccer and field hockey practices are not allowed on any grass playing field in the City or District of North Vancouver. Practice for these sports is only allowed on all weather or artificial turf fields. Please refer to question 3 on how to book a field.

Q2. How do I check the availability of a field, park or outdoor sports court?

Call our Field Allocation Office at 604-983-6318 (Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 3:30 pm) for more information.

Q3. How do I book a field, park or outdoor sports court?

Before using any North Vancouver field, park or outdoor sports court, your group must first obtain a permit from the North Vancouver Recreation Commission. The permit is an agreement between your group and the recCommission, the District of North Vancouver, the City of North Vancouver and School District #44. Review our terms and regulations, then apply online with our Parks & Playing Field Application. Call our Field Allocation Office at 604-983-6318 for more information.

Q4. How can I find out the location of a specific playing field?

Check out our online inventory of grass and artificial turf fields.

Q5. Where is the whiting shed for the field we've booked?

Some, but not all, of our grass and all weather fields have whiting sheds (lime sheds) for storing the equipment and supplies for lining fields. Check our current list of whiting shed locations.

Q6. How do I turn the lights on or off at a playing field or lacrosse box?

To use these facilities, you must have a confirmed booking with the recCommission. To turn lights on or off, you will need to purchase a lighting box key (see next question). Check out our lighting box locations for more information. NOTE: The outdoor lighting at some playing fields and lacrosse boxes may already be turned on in the evenings when your group arrives.

Q7. How do I get keys for a lighting box or a whiting shed?

Groups with confirmed bookings can purchase a whiting shed key or lighting box key at the Delbrook Centre front desk (600 West Queens Road).

Q8. How can I find out if a field has been closed?

You can check playing field status online at any time or call our Field Status phone line at 604-983-6444 (ext. 503) to listen to a prerecorded message. This message is updated with the most current field conditions as follows:

  • On weekdays (if conditions affect school use of City or District fields)
  • Fridays for weekend play
  • Saturday and Sunday mornings if conditions have changed since Friday.

Q9. How do I report a safety or maintenance issue?

You can call us at 604-983-6318, email us, or fill out our online Field Maintenance & Incident Report form.

Q10. What type of footwear is allowed on the artificial turf fields?

Moulded rubber cleats, turf shoes or running shoes are allowed. Any footwear with metal cleats or screw-in plastic cleats is strictly forbidden. Find out more about other forbidden items on artificial turf fields and the penalties involved.

Super 8 Goal Lock Up Locations

Below are photos to show where the Goals should be locked up at the end of the day by the last team using the field. There should be 2 chains & locks at each location to lock up the goals. Keys to to open these locks are the same keys used for the liner sheds/boxes.
